Marina's journey in Moldova, USSR, where she spent her formative years until her graduation from secondary school. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Russia in 1980, where she embarked on a medical school journey. After completing her education in medicine and earning an MD degree from the State Medical School of Vinnitsa, Ukraine, in 1986, Marina's life took a unique turn.
Marriage to an international student from Guyana brought both joy and challenges. While she had a daughter, circumstances prevented her from joining her husband abroad. Marina remained in the Soviet Union, working as a physician in Ukraine.
A New Beginning in Israel
The political landscape shifted in 1990, offering Marina an opportunity to leave the USSR. She seized the chance to immigrate to Israel with her daughter and mother. In Israel, Marina reaffirmed her medical credentials and completed a rigorous four-year residency program in family medicine. Her versatile career in healthcare included roles in emergency medicine, internal medicine, family medicine, and even serving as the director of a primary care clinic.
A Journey to Canada
In 2004, Marina took another leap of faith by immigrating to Canada. Here, she confirmed her medical degree once more. Marina dedicated herself to serving a rural community in Alberta, where she provided comprehensive care, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services. Her commitment extended to training medical students and residents from the University of Alberta and UBC, fostering the next generation of healthcare professionals.
A BC Perspective on Healthcare
In 2013, Marina relocated to British Columbia, continuing her mission to provide essential medical services in rural areas. In 2019-2020, she took on the role of a locum in remote and underserved communities, offering her a unique vantage point on the healthcare landscape in BC. This experience further solidified her dedication to improving healthcare access for all.
