Statement from John Rustad on Introduction of The Free Trade and Mobility Within Canada Act

“This is a common-sense, pro-growth approach that puts British Columbians first.”

-John Rustad, MLA and Leader of the Official Opposition Conservative Party of British Columbia

VICTORIA, BC – The following statement is issued by Official Opposition Conservative Leader John Rustad on the introduction of his Free Trade and Mobility Within Canada Act:

“Today, I introduced the Free Trade and Mobility Within Canada Act, legislation that would break down trade barriers, expand opportunities for British Columbians, and strengthen our economy by making it easier to do business across Canada. This is a bold step toward ensuring British Columbians benefit from a freer, fairer, and more competitive marketplace.”

“For too long, interprovincial trade barriers have cost businesses time, money, and opportunity—holding back workers and limiting consumer choice. While today’s announcement of new 25% tariffs imposed by the U.S. pose a significant challenge for Canada’s economy, we must take action to secure our own prosperity. We cannot afford to be reliant on unstable international markets when barriers within our own country remain. That is why I am calling on the NDP government to do the right thing and adopt this bill without delay.”

“Our legislation ensures that goods approved in other provinces will be treated as if they were made in B.C., eliminating redundant testing and fees. It also guarantees that skilled workers licensed in one province can work in B.C. without unnecessary re-certification. This is a commonsense, pro-growth approach that puts British Columbians first.”

“British Columbia cannot afford to remain on the sidelines while other provinces move toward freer trade and workforce mobility. The NDP government must put politics aside and act in the best interest of British Columbians by adopting this bill. The time for action is now.”
