BC Conservatives Issue a Report Card to the NDP — and It’s a Failing Grade
“If they’re not passionate enough about their own files to get the basics right, how can they fix anything?”
-Á’a:líya Warbus, MLA for Chilliwack-Cultus Lake and House Leader of the Official Opposition
Victoria, BC – The BC Conservatives are issuing the NDP government a report card—they received an “F” and will be repeating a grade. British Columbians deserve better: a government that knows what’s happening, owns its failures, and answers to the people.
Today in Question Period, the BC NDP couldn’t answer 20 basic questions. From ER benchmarks to child deaths in care, from sawmill closures to wildfire evacuations, the government either didn’t know, didn’t care, or didn’t want to say.
Only one minister, the Minister of Citizens’ Services, came close to providing a straight answer. The rest of the cabinet either dodged or stumbled through their responses, failing to account for basic facts across their portfolios.
Question Period, formally called Oral Questions, is an essential tool in our democracy. It’s how opposition parties hold government accountable on behalf of the people. When ministers can’t answer simple, factual questions, it raises serious concerns about their ability to govern.
And instead of treating that responsibility with seriousness, Minister Ravi Parmar chose to mock the Opposition’s efforts, calling our questions “dumb.” It’s disrespectful not just to MLAs, but to the people we represent.
“If they’re not passionate enough about their own files to get the basics right, how can they fix anything?” said Á’a:líya Warbus, MLA for Chilliwack-Cultus Lake and House Leader of the Official Opposition. Warbus pressed the government on how many alternative opioid doses were prescribed between 2022 and 2024 — and got no answer.
Unfortunately, just like with their “fudge-it budget”, just like with Bill 7, they failed the test.
The Official Opposition Conservatives will continue to do their job of holding the government to account, even if the government doesn’t like it.
