About Misty Van Popta

Deeply Rooted in Langley

Misty is a Langley native, having grown up and raised her two daughters in various parts of the community. Her lifelong connection to Langley fuels her passion for advocating and serving its residents. From her early years, she’s been actively involved, and served as a Municipal Councillor for the Township of Langley.

Leadership and Community Focus

Elected in 2022 as part of the ‘Contract With Langley’ team alongside Mayor Eric Woodward, Misty brings a strong focus on community engagement. She actively contributes on regional boards like Metro Vancouver’s Water Committee and previously served on their Climate Action Committee. Misty‘s past roles include the Township’s Heritage Advisory Committee, the Langley Christian School Society, and the Fort Langley Business Association.

Building a Strong Community

Beyond her political role, Misty is a seasoned project management professional in construction. Her education from SFU and PMP designation make her a valuable asset. She actively contributes to building much-needed housing and possesses a deep understanding of urban planning challenges, financial implications, and risks associated with housing development. Misty‘s prior experience as a small business owner and in the pharmaceutical software industry further broadens her perspective.

Driven to Serve

A proven leader and high achiever, her top priority is serving her community, family, and friends. As a Councillor, she’s known for her logical approach, thoughtful consideration, and long-term vision. Overcrowding in schools, a lack of investment in health care, no investment in transit or transportation, and provincial legislation that has negatively impacted the community inspired Misty to put her name forward for the 2024 election and win.
