John Rustad Exposes Eby’s Carbon Tax Lie: Swapping One Tax for Another to Punish Working British Columbians

“The Conservative Party of British Columbia will axe, oppose, and remove any and all carbon taxes. Unlike Eby and the NDP, we won’t just repackage the same job-killing policies under a different label. British Columbians deserve real relief, not more hidden taxes.” - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia

September 17th, Vancouver, BC: John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, blasted Premier David Eby and the BC NDP for their secret plans to keep the carbon tax alive through a backdoor scheme in the form of a new $3 billion levy. Rustad accused Eby of lying to British Columbians about his desire to scrap the carbon tax, instead promising to swap the old carbon tax for a new hidden one that punishes workers, employers, and ultimately, consumers.

“David Eby pretends his new tax will only apply to so-called ‘big polluters,’ but the truth is it’s a tax on everyone and everything,” said Rustad. “In reality, the costs will be passed down to everyday British Columbians in the form of higher prices for goods, services, and essentials.”

Rustad emphasized that this hidden tax will drive up costs across the board, hitting British Columbians where it hurts the most: their wallets. By disguising the tax as an industry levy, the NDP is offloading the costs directly onto employers, who will have no choice but to pass them onto consumers.

“This is just another sneaky NDP maneuver to keep their costly carbon agenda alive,” Rustad continued. “Eby’s plan punishes everyone from workers to business owners and downloads the costs onto regular working people. It’s another betrayal of yet another promise he’s made.”

The BC Conservatives pledged to eliminate all forms of the carbon tax, and the low carbon fuel standard, without replacement, and to fight any attempt by the NDP to reintroduce it under a different name.

“The Conservative Party of British Columbia will axe, oppose, and remove any and all carbon taxes, resulting in savings of 18 cents per litre of gas,” Rustad declared. “Unlike Eby and the NDP, we won’t just repackage the same job-killing policies under a different label. British Columbians deserve real relief, not more hidden taxes.”
