John Rustad Condemns Trudeau Government for Forcing BC to Take in 22,000 Asylum Seekers Without Support Amid Housing Crisis

“Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government are dumping thousands of asylum seekers on BC without a plan or funding, all while our province grapples with an unprecedented housing crisis,” said Rustad. “We are a welcoming province, but Trudeau’s failure to provide the necessary resources is a betrayal of both the newcomers and the communities already struggling to make ends meet.” - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia

September 11th, Vancouver, BC: John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, blasted Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the federal Liberal government for their reckless decision to force BC to accept 22,000 asylum seekers without providing any financial support. Rustad slammed the move as irresponsible, especially during a housing and cost of living crisis that is already pushing British Columbians to the brink.

“Justin Trudeau and his Liberal government are dumping thousands of asylum seekers on BC without a plan or funding, all while our province grapples with an unprecedented housing crisis,” said Rustad. “We are a welcoming province, but Trudeau’s failure to provide the necessary resources is a betrayal of both the newcomers and the communities already struggling to make ends meet.”

Rustad emphasized that BC’s healthcare, education, and social services are already stretched thin, and this decision by the federal government will only exacerbate existing challenges, leaving both new arrivals and British Columbians in dire straits.

“The federal government needs to step up, provide the support necessary, and address the backlog of asylum claims that their failed policies have created,” Rustad continued. “The BC Conservatives will fight to protect our communities and demand accountability from Ottawa.”
