John Rustad and Amelia Boultbee commit to providing $3 million in support for primary health care centre in Summerland
September 18th, 2024, Summerland, BC - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia and Amelia Boultbee, candidate for Penticton-Summerland are pledging $3 million in support for the completion of the proposed primary health care centre in Summerland.
It is anticipated there will be 4,000 unattached patients this year in Summerland and the centre, which has been proposed by the District of Summerland, will respond to the need for increased primary care services and adequate space for these services within the community. It will attract new providers to Summerland, address the shortage in primary care providers and improve access to care by offering a centralized team-based model of care.
“Thanks to David Eby and the radical NDP, our healthcare system is in crisis,” said Rustad. “Projects like this centre in Summerland will bring healthcare providers back to our communities that need them most.”
Summerland’s current clinics do not have capacity to take on new patients. The currently envisioned 10,000 square foot centre will be a medical home for all Summerland residents with sixteen family physicians or nurse practitioners providing team-based care.
“BC’s current healthcare system is failing British Columbians and failing the people of Penticton Summerland,” said Boutlbee. “I am proud to say that a BC Conservative government will deliver meaningful healthcare reform to get the people access to the care they need.”
