“We need a government that prioritizes the safety and security of its citizens over political correctness and ineffective policies. Under Conservative leadership, we will take the necessary steps to rid our province of the scourge of drug smuggling and organized crime.” - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia
August 7, Vancouver, BC: John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, and Elenore Sturko, MLA for Surrey South and Conservative Party Candidate for Surrey-Cloverdale, strongly condemn Premier David Eby and the BC NDP government for their failure to address the growing crisis of drug smuggling and organized crime, turning British Columbia into an international hub for illicit activities.
Recent Incidents Highlight Government Failure
Recent reports have exposed alarming incidents that highlight the failure of the Eby government to control the spread of organized crime and drug smuggling. A Canadian woman was arrested in Australia with methamphetamine hidden in her luggage after flying from Vancouver airport, a clear indication of the international reach of drug operations originating in British Columbia. Additionally, the CBC has reported that fentanyl production within Canada, particularly in British Columbia, is contributing to a devastating public health crisis.
“David Eby and the BC NDP have turned British Columbia into a playground for international drug smugglers and organized crime,” said John Rustad. “Their lenient policies and lack of decisive action have allowed these criminal networks to thrive, putting the safety and wellbeing of British Columbians at grave risk. This government’s inability to address these issues is not just a failure; it’s a betrayal of the trust and safety of our citizens.”
Elenore Sturko emphasized the severe impact that these criminal activities have on local communities. “The NDP’s ineffective governance has not only failed to curb organized crime but has also exacerbated the public health crisis caused by drugs like fentanyl. Families are being torn apart, and our streets are becoming more dangerous by the day. British Columbians deserve a government that will take a firm stand against these criminal elements,” said Sturko.
Commitment to Restoring Law and Order
The Conservative Party of British Columbia pledges to restore law and order through several key initiatives:
- Tougher Laws on Drug Smuggling and Production: Implement stricter penalties for those involved in drug smuggling and production to deter criminal activities.
- Increased Funding for Law Enforcement: Provide additional resources and support for law enforcement agencies to combat organized crime effectively.
- Enhanced Border Security: Strengthen border security measures to prevent the import and export of illegal drugs.
- Comprehensive Public Health Approach: Develop a robust public health strategy to address the root causes of drug addiction that prioritizes treatment and not free drugs.
John Rustad and Elenore Sturko call on British Columbians to support the Conservative Party’s vision for a safer province. “We need a government that prioritizes the safety and security of its citizens over political correctness and ineffective policies,” said Rustad. “Under Conservative leadership, we will take the necessary steps to rid our province of the scourge of drug smuggling and organized crime.”
