“ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”: Rustad Demands Eby Scrap the Carbon Tax

After Prime Minister-Designate Carney Pledges to Kill It — Warns Against Hidden Tax Hikes on Industry

VICTORIA, BC: Conservative Party of British Columbia Leader John Rustad is demanding that David Eby immediately scrap his punishing carbon tax after Prime Minister-designate Mark Carney announced plans to eliminate the federal carbon tax — and warns Eby not to try hiding the tax on the backs of businesses and workers through higher industry levies.

“When even Mark Carney — the global champion of carbon pricing — admits the carbon tax is a failure and vows to get rid of it federally, it’s game over for David Eby’s tax on everything,” said Rustad. “The message is clear: British Columbians cannot afford it, and it’s time to axe the tax, period.”

Rustad warned that if Eby continues with his carbon tax, B.C. will soon be the only province in Canada still crushed under skyrocketing gas prices, unaffordable groceries, and higher home heating bills — all thanks to Eby’s stubbornness and arrogance.

“This tax makes life unaffordable. David Eby now faces a massive hole in his budget because his entire plan was built on gouging working families to pay for his reckless spending. And let me be crystal clear — he cannot just shift this tax to industry, which will only drive up costs for everyone anyway. Hiding the tax is not the same as scrapping it.”

Rustad said any attempt by Eby to hike the so-called “industrial carbon tax” to make up for lost consumer tax revenue will just hammer workers, small businesses, and families with even higher costs for goods, services, and jobs.

“If David Eby thinks British Columbians will fall for a sneaky shell game — scrapping the tax at the pump but jacking it up on businesses so prices still rise — he’s got another thing coming,” Rustad said. “British Columbians need real relief, not more NDP games and gimmicks.”

Rustad reaffirmed that a Conservative government will axe the carbon tax completely — on consumers and on industry — and focus on affordability and common sense.

“Enough is enough. A Conservative government will scrap the carbon tax — no tricks, no loopholes, no hiding it under another name. British Columbians deserve real relief, and we will deliver it.”
