Conservatives will build a new athletic facility for Queensborough

"A new track and turf field would be more than just an athletic facility—it would be a hub for social activity, a space for youth to play, and a safe place for our elderly residents to stay active and healthy. This project is about giving back to a community that has been underserved for decades." - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia

October 10th Queensborough, BC: – British Columbia Conservative Party Leader John Rustad committed to the construction of a much-needed sports complex in Queensborough. This $5 million investment would address the longstanding neglect of the community by providing a space where youth, seniors, and all community members can gather and exercise in a safe and accessible environment.

Currently, Queensborough has no athletic facility that meets the needs of its growing population. The existing grass fields become unusable for much of the year, turning into mud due to the area’s below-sea-level elevation and frequent flooding. This lack of reliable recreational space has left many residents—especially young people and seniors—without a place to stay active, socialize, and improve their physical health.

"For too long, Queensborough has been overlooked by politicians, and it’s time for a real, tangible investment in this community," said Steve Kooner, Conservative candidate for Richmond-Queensborough. "A new track and turf field would be more than just an athletic facility—it would be a hub for social activity, a space for youth to play, and a safe place for our elderly residents to stay active and healthy. This project is about giving back to a community that has been underserved for decades."

The proposed track and turf field would serve as a multi-purpose venue, suitable for everything from soccer and running to community events and fitness programs for seniors. With Queensborough’s unique geographic challenges, including frequent wet conditions, the artificial turf would provide a reliable, all-weather solution to the current unusable grass fields.

"This investment is an acknowledgment that Queensborough deserves better, and we are committed to fighting for it," Rustad continued. "We believe this project will not only improve physical health outcomes but also strengthen the sense of community, providing a place where people can connect, share, and support each other."

"Queensborough has waited long enough. It's time for action," Rustad concluded.
