“It’s time we stop the ‘hug a thug’ policies of this government and leave violent criminals locked up behind bars where they belong” - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia
(June 28, 2024) Surrey, BC: The Conservative Party of British Columbia extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Tori Dunn following the tragic events of June 16, 2024. Tori Dunn, a vibrant member of our community and successful entrepreneur, lost her life in a senseless act of violence committed by a repeat violent offender out on bail during a home invasion.
Today, the Conservative Party of British Columbia stands in solidarity with the Dunn family as they mourn the loss of their beloved daughter, sister, and friend. We echo their calls for justice and accountability in light of this heartbreaking incident.
In response to recent developments, including the arrest and charging of Adam Troy Mann with second-degree murder in connection to Tori Dunn's death, the Conservative Party of British Columbia emphasizes the need for robust reforms within our justice system. This tragic event underscores significant concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of current bail and judicial processes.
Aron Dunn, father of Tori Dunn, expressed profound anguish and resolve in seeking justice for his daughter:
"Tori will be missed, and we are going to fight for justice," says Aron Dunn. "My fight is going to be about how these judges let these guys go and this catch-and-release thing they have going on in this province and how they're not implementing Bill C-48."
Bill C-48, introduced to enhance protections against repeat violent offenders seeking bail, has been a focal point in discussions following Tori Dunn's tragic death. The Conservative Party of British Columbia supports legislative measures that prioritize public safety and ensure accountability for those who pose significant risks to our communities.
John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, stated:
"The death of Tori Dunn is a devastating loss for her family and our community. We stand with the Dunn family in their call for justice and urge the Premier to take decisive action to strengthen our justice system. It is imperative that we review and, where necessary, revise existing laws and procedures to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future. That’s why we’re calling for the return of mandatory minimum sentencing for heinous crimes. It’s time we stop the ‘hug a thug’ policies of this government and leave violent criminals locked up behind bars where they belong".
Elenore Sturko, MLA for Surrey South added:
“Canada’s criminal code was written in Ottawa, but the administration of justice is a provincial responsibility. Premier Eby has failed in this responsibility”.
The Conservative Party of British Columbia extends gratitude to the Surrey RCMP and the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team for their diligent efforts in pursuing justice for Tori Dunn. We encourage anyone with information relevant to the investigation to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or [email protected].
As a party committed to the safety and well-being of all British Columbians, the Conservative Party of British Columbia reaffirms its dedication to advocating for meaningful reforms that uphold justice, protect victims, and ensure that tragedies like Tori Dunn's death do not go unanswered.
