Victoria, BC – Momentum is building for families across British Columbia. Bill M 204 – Perinatal and Postnatal Mental Health Strategy Act, introduced by Conservative MLA Jody Toor, has officially passed the committee stage with amendments and is now moving to the report stage and Third Reading.
“This is a major milestone,” said Toor. “Families have waited long enough for a coordinated, compassionate approach to mental health care during and after pregnancy. I’m thrilled to see this bill move forward with such strong support.”
If passed, Bill M 204 would require the provincial government to develop a comprehensive strategy focused on perinatal and postnatal mental health, ensuring timely access to care, trauma-informed supports, and inclusive services that reflect the needs of B.C.’s diverse communities.
Toor also offered sincere thanks to her colleagues on all sides of the House:
“I want to thank all Members who recognized the urgency of this issue and helped move this bill through committee. Your support sends a powerful message to parents across this province, that their mental health matters.”
With committee support secured, Bill M 204 now heads to Third Reading.
