“Premier Eby’s failure to stand up against antisemitism and lawlessness has emboldened extremists to take their hate from the shadows onto our campuses and into our streets.” - John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia

September 4th, Vancouver, BC: John Rustad, Leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia, today delivered a searing condemnation of the BC NDP government and Premier David Eby for creating an environment that allows antisemitic hatred to flourish, following an appalling act of vandalism at the University of British Columbia (UBC). A pig’s head was placed on a campus gate alongside the message “pigs off campus,” an attack loaded with antisemitic and anti-law enforcement sentiment that crossed every line of decency.

“This sickening display of hatred didn’t just happen in a vacuum—it’s the direct result of the toxic environment that David Eby and the BC NDP have allowed to fester across this province,” said Rustad. “Premier Eby’s failure to stand up against antisemitism and lawlessness has emboldened extremists to take their hate from the shadows onto our campuses and into our streets.”

Rustad held nothing back in his criticism of the NDP’s permissive stance toward radical groups that promote division and hatred under the guise of activism. “These so-called ‘activists’ who refer to Canada as ‘KKKanada’ have no respect for Canadian values of decency, unity, and respect for all. They are weaponizing a foreign conflict to sow discord, disrupt our communities, and attack the very foundations of our society.”

Rustad pointed directly at Eby and his government for creating a breeding ground for such extremist views. “The BC NDP’s weak-kneed approach to law and order and their inability to condemn antisemitism and hate has opened the door for this kind of vile behavior to take root. David Eby’s silence and inaction have sent a clear message: hate and division are tolerated under his watch.”

The incident at UBC isn’t just an attack on the Jewish community—it’s an attack on all Canadians who believe in freedom, safety, and respect. “These antisemitic vandals are not just defacing a campus; they are trying to tear apart the fabric of Canadian society,” Rustad continued. “Their calls to shut down the campus are not about protest—they’re about silencing voices, spreading fear, and dismantling everything this country stands for.”

Rustad demanded immediate action from UBC and called on Premier Eby to finally take a stand against the rising tide of hate. “UBC must act now to protect its students and staff from this growing menace. But let’s be clear—this is a direct consequence of the BC NDP’s soft stance on extremism. David Eby needs to stop hiding behind his political rhetoric and start defending the values that make our country great.”

“We will not stand by as our universities are turned into breeding grounds for hate and antisemitism,” Rustad declared. “David Eby and the BC NDP have failed this province by allowing hatred to flourish unchecked. UBC must act immediately, and the NDP must finally show some backbone and put an end to this disgraceful chapter in our history. Canada deserves better, and it’s time to take our campuses back from the forces of hate.”
